Macromedia is graphics and web development software house which is formed by 1992 merger of Authorware Inc (founder of Authorware) and MacroMind-Paracomp (creator of Macromind Director).

In 1996 Macromedia achieved iBand Software, by the developers who made the fledgling Backstage HTML authoring tool and application server, Macromedia developed a new platform for the HTML authoring application which is famous as Macromedia Dreamweaver, the portions in the Backstage codebase and released the first version in market in 1997, and the appreciation for Macromedia at that time most of the developers prefer code HTML by hand text editors, they are more relying on that, as they want full control on HTML source, Dreamweaver realize them with its “Roundtrip HTML” feature, that gave developer to fidelity of hand-edited source coding during visual edits, and allow users to work on both visually and on back-end at the same time and in next few years Dreamweaver became very famous in the professionals of web authors, but still some are preferred to code by hand and Microsoft FrontPage is very famous in new entry web authors and became a competitor of Macromedia.
Macromedia keep working on the M&A trail and later in 1999 takeover the company Andromedia Corporation, and after that Allaire and after that Macromedia includes many popular servers and web development products to the profile of company, which contains a ColdFusion a web application server based on the CFML language, JRun, a J2EE application server, and HomeSite, an HTML code editor which bundled with Dreamweaver.
Macromedia obtain a web conferencing company Presedia and keep moving ahead in development and enhancing the Flash-based online partnership and presenting product under the brand of Breeze, and later in 2003 Macromedia merge a help authoring company software company eHelp Corporation, whose products are RoboHelp & RoboDemo (Now Captivate) and many of the RoboHelp developers move in to MadCap Software who is competitor of Macromedia in help-authoring space.
